EPU 43 and EPU 45 expand Carbon’s idea to production platform and provide new opportunities for impact protection products.

REDWOOD CITY (Calif.), Nov. 15, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — FORMNEXT — CarbonToday,, a world-renowned 3D printing technology company, announced two new damping elastomers EPU 43 and 45. Carbon’s already impressive collection of materials will be enhanced by these elastomers as part of its idea to production platform. They provide new opportunities to create innovative products for impact protection, such as padding, gloves and helmets.

EPU 43 is an energy-damping rubber that is both soft and durable under high-cycle stretching. It is suitable for comfort padding for helmet liners or safety gloves. EPU 45 achieves the highest level of  damping performance and printability within the Carbon portfolio, making it the choice for many high-performance applications including sports padding and seating.

Carbon’s dual-cure damping elastomers are offering new options and solutions to a variety of impact protection requirements, including:

  • Performance that is unmatched EPU 45 is a strain-rate-sensitive material that stiffens to absorb energy at higher impact rates, enabling the design of highly breathable lattice geometries tuned for comfort at low-impact speeds and energy absorption at high-impact speeds. EPU 43 is moderately stiff, has good damping and can flex in many temperature and humidity environments.
  • Durability and comfort EPU 45 provides the strength and resilience to withstand high-energy impacts in a range of environments. EPU 43 is moderately stiff, which allows for more conforming lattice designs.
  • Production ThroughputEPU 45 is the most green-stable of Carbon’s Elastomers. This allows for a wide range of part shapes to be printed with high yield. EPU 43 has moderate green strength and can be used to print a wide range of production shapes, with high yield.
  • Proven-in-production: EPU 45 products are coming soon, and EPU 43 was proven in well-known products such Hard Head Veterans or the CCM Hockey Helmet.

Both elastomers can be ordered now North America, EuropeAnd China. EPU 45 is available in 19L packages to support high-volume production workflows. 5L samples will be available for mid-volume production workflows.
